Can i overpower an rc car reciever ?

Basically i had an rc car which i have now converted into a rc boat. I wanted more speed for it. Would overpowering the reciever destroy it. It runs on 4 1.2v rechargable aa batteries. that makes it 4.8v . i have an additional 2.5v battery. what to do. Please help. Thanku..!
