Question about sallie mae student loan?

i need to find an appropriate student loan for beauty school, (it's private so i don't get any kind of federal financial aid) and i had some concerns. if i apply for a sallie mae loan, do i have to take it? or can i just see what my interest rate and payments would be first? based of my information.
